What is the International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (ICPS)?


ICPS 2014 continues a series of biennial conferences that began in the 1950's. The 32nd ICPS will be held in Austin, Texas August 10-15, 2014. ICPS is the premier meeting for reporting all aspects of semiconductor physics including electronic, structural, optical, magnetic and transport properties.

The conference will reflect the state of art in the semiconductor physics and will serve as a forum where scholars, researchers, and specialists can interact to discuss future research directions and technological advancements.

Who should attend?


ICPS draws more than 1,000 international physicists, scientists, professors and students.

Where is the conference session being held?


The conference is being held at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.

Where has ICPS been held before?

Will there be child care?


ICPS 2014 will not be providing any child care. Attendees are responsible for coordinating their own child care.

What is the dress code for the conference?


Business casual attire is encouraged for all meetings and events at the ICPS 2014 conference.

What is the “official” language of the sessions?


Presentations and documents will be in English.

Will I have internet access while at the conference?


Yes, there is free wireless access at the convention center.

May I use Social Media outlets to discuss the conference?

Will there be vegetarian or other dietary meal options available to me?


Yes. Vegetarian and other special dietary needs (such as kosher, gluten-free, etc.) can be made available; please email registration@icps2014.org in advance with your request.

I am checking out of my hotel. Where may I store my luggage while at the conference?


We recommend you store your luggage with the hotel bell staff.



What does my registration fee include?


If you registered as regular attendee or student, then the following is included with your registration fee:

  • Admission to all scientific sessions, poster sessions and commercial exhibition.
  • Coffee breaks and welcome reception.
  • Conference materials, such as bag, gifts, badge.

If you registered as a guest then the following is included with your registration fee:

  • Admission to poster sessions and commercial exhibition.
  • Coffee breaks and welcome reception.

How do I add a guest to my existing registration?


Note that only Regular Registrants may add a guest to their registration. If you are a Regular Registrant, please email registration@icps2014.org with your Registrant ID and your guest's First and Last Names and also his or her emergency contact information (name and phone number). We will contact you directly to collect your credit card information for your guest's registration payment.

Do the any of the conference activities or excursions conflict with program sessions?


No. All conference activities and excursions are planned for the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, 13 August, 2014. There are no program sessions during the time period set aside for excursions. Note that a few excursions take place Wednesday evening and conflict with the conference dinner (the attendee must select his or her preference).

How do I add, cancel, or change my conference activities?


Please email registration@icps2014.org with your Registrant ID and please indicate any and all adjustments or cancellations you would like to make to your conference activities. If the changes result in payment due to ICPS, we will contact you to recollect payment information. If the changes result in a refund owed to you, we will issue a refund, available based on when you cancel or change your conference activities.

If excursion registration is cancelled prior to Wednesday, 02 July 2014, guests will receive a full refund. Cancellations after Wednesday, 02 July 2014 are 100% non-refundable. Excursions operate rain or shine with the exception of dangerous weather conditions. ICPS conference organizers reserve the right to cancel excursions if minimums are not met. In this instance, guests will receive an email notification by Thursday, 03 July 2014 and will have the option to rebook another excursion (pending availability) or receive a full refund.

I registered for ICPS but won't be able to attend. Can my colleague go in my place?


Yes. If you do not need to adjust the credit card on file, please simply email registration@icps2014.org your Registrant ID and carbon copy (cc) your colleague on the email. We will then collect the necessary contact information from them. If you need to adjust the credit card on file, please still email registration@icps2014.org with your colleague cc:ed and we will contact him or her to collect the appropriate contact and payment information.

I require a visa letter for registration. Who do I email?


If you require an invitation letter, please email visa@icps2014.org. Please provide your full name, mailing address, passport number, date of birth, passport validity duration (date issued to date of expiration), country of citizenship, telephone number, and mobile number (include country code for both phone numbers).

I never received my registration confirmation receipt. Who do I contact?


Please email registration@icps2014.org your Registrant ID and we will reply with your registration confirmation PDF receipt attached.

How do I cancel my registration? Will I receive a refund?


Please email registration@icps2014.org with your Registrant ID and we will arrange the cancellation. Refunds are available based on when you cancel. See below chart for registration refund amounts. If you would like to cancel or change only the conference activities you registered for and not your full registration, please indicate which in your email.

May I register on-site for the conference?


Yes, you may register on-site at the meeting for the on-site rate stated on the registration page. However, only credit cards will be accepted for on-site registrations; checks and cash will not be accepted. Payment must be made in full for entry to the conference. We strongly encourage you to register in advance so that you will have a speedier check-in when you arrive at the meeting.



My Poster abstract was accepted. What are the guidelines for my Poster Presentation?


We will provide space for each poster 36 x 48 inches (90 x 120) centimeters in size. Find the date, time, and location of your Poster Presentation in the conference program by typing your name into the search field here.

My Oral abstract was accepted. What are the guidelines for my Oral Presentation?

What is the deadline for abstract submission?


All submissions are due by 28 February 2014, 11:59 PM Central Time.

What is the format for abstract submission?


All submissions will be text only. We will not use Word and / or LaTeX formatted abstracts. We are doing this to simplify porting abstract information to other conference products (online conference schedule, mobile app, conference program).

What are the instructions for the abstract body?

  • Abstract bodies are limited to 1300 characters (about 250 words).
  • Do NOT re-enter the title or author information into the abstract body.
  • Do NOT use special characters. We are using text only so we can efficiently port abstract information for other conference purposes.

May I submit more than one abstract?


Yes. Note that each abstract submission will have a separate and unique Abstract UserID.

I submitted my abstract, but now I need to edit it. How can I edit my submission?


If you would like to edit your abstract submission, please email abstract@icps2014.org with your desired changes or additions, and we will modify your submission for you.

I do not see the Submit button at the end of the submission process. Where is it?


Please go back through every tab or page of the submission process and make sure you have filled every required field. The Submit button will not appear at the end of the process until all require fields have been filled. If you have filled every required field, and still do not see the Submit button, please email abstract@icps2014.org.

Will there be conference proceedings?


Presentations by plenary and invited speakers will be published as papers in the Journal of Applied Physics. Abstracts for all presentations will be available online and distributed at the meeting.



I live outside the United States, what kind of visa do I require?


Depending on the country you are holding a passport for, the United States may require you to obtain a Visa. Please click here and then click the "Visa Information" tab to learn more.

Do I need a group code when making my hotel reservation to get the conference rate?


You will not be required to input a group code when making your hotel reservation in order to receive the group rate. If you the group rate is not showing, please send an email to info@icps2014.org with “Hotel Reservation” in the subject line.

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

What is the weather like in Austin, Texas in August?


The weather during the conference will be about 97° F / 36° C for a high during the day and about 75° F / 24° C in the evenings. Please note it can get as hot as 110° F / 43° C during the day as August is on average the warmest month in Texas.

What is the tipping policy and currency/exchange rate for the United States?


The typical tipping policy for the United States is 15-20% of the cost of the item for cab drivers, limousine drivers, restaurant wait staff (may be 25% if you dine at a fine restaurant), and room service. For hotel staff, the tipping policy is as follows: parking valet - $5 when you leave your car and when you pick it up, doorman - $5 if he hails you a taxi, bellman - $5 per bag, chambermaid - $2 per day (can go up to $10 per day depending on the type of hotel you are staying at), concierge - tipping is not necessary however if the service has been especially valuable you may tip $5-20, bartender - $1 per drink, and coat check attendant - $1 per item. If you go on a tour, it is custom to reward a good guide by tipping 10-20% of the ticket cost.

What is the voltage for the United States?


The United States runs on 120 V, 60 HZ and uses an A & B plug.

Where may I find information on Austin attractions (museums, restaurants, etc.)?


Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World®. We’re home to more than 250 music venues, and countless famous artists. Summer in Austin brings plenty of free outdoor music concert series, such as Blues on the Green and Unplugged at the Grove. To cool off, visit the Barton Springs, a 68-degree swimming hole. And, as the sun goes down, watch millions of bats take flight from the Congress Avenue Bridge.

Does ICPS 2014 offer travel support?


Yes, there is limited funding for travel support. If you wish to apply for travel support please email info@icps2014.org with the following information only: name, country, and reason for support request. All money will be allotted on a first come, first serve basis. Money will be issued after May 1st.
